Preparation for Your Demands

Train for What You Need to Do.

Sport performance is not one quality. It depends on how well you can produce, control and repeat force for the demands of your activity.

A golfer and a fighter may both need strength and rotational power, but the way they use those qualities is different. A skier needs repeated lower-body control and fatigue resistance; a field athlete may require acceleration, braking and changes of direction.

Peter develops the underlying physical qualities using suitable exercise selection and progression. Technical or tactical instruction specific to your sport stays with the relevant sport coach when appropriate.

What We May Develop

Six Building Blocks of Performance.

Not every client needs an equal dose of everything. Assessment and the demands of your activity determine the priorities.

01 / STRENGTH

Force Production

Develop appropriate lower- and upper-body strength, including unilateral and bilateral patterns, with progressively managed loading.

02 / POWER

Explosive Output

Train the capacity to express force quickly using appropriate jumps, throws, lifts and other power methods.

03 / SPEED

Acceleration & Agility

Develop speed-related capacities, deceleration and change-of-direction mechanics where relevant to your sport.

04 / MOVEMENT

Mobility & Control

Address useful joint range, stability, coordination and movement options without automatically treating every asymmetry as a fault.

05 / CONDITIONING

Repeatable Capacity

Build the aerobic and higher-intensity qualities needed to sustain or repeat efforts for your chosen activity.

06 / RESILIENCE

Load Tolerance & Recovery

Plan training volume and recovery alongside relevant corrective and rehabilitation-focused work when indicated.

Assess Before You Programme

The Programme Begins With Your Starting Point.

The most useful plan starts with what you need to do and what you can currently do.

Peter considers injury and training history, current sport demands, mobility, strength, control, relevant asymmetries, conditioning and the time you can commit. Testing is selected for the individual rather than using every available test on everyone.

Where appropriate, selected strength, jump or movement measures give you a baseline to revisit as the programme progresses. A test is used to guide decisions—not to label a person by a single score.

A Structured Coaching Process

Assess. Prepare. Develop. Reassess.

The order and emphasis adapt to the client and training calendar; these are connected steps rather than five rigid blocks of equal length.

01 / ASSESS

Establish a Baseline

Clarify goals and relevant physical qualities, training experience, current capacity and limitations.

02 / PREPARE

Build What Is Missing

Develop the mobility, movement control or foundational strength appropriate to your starting point.

03 / DEVELOP

Strength, Power & Capacity

Progress loading, speed and conditioning methods to target selected physical qualities.

04 / REASSESS

Adjust Around Sport

Review physical progress and adapt the programme to practice, competitions and recovery.

Transfer matters: Gym gains are only one part of sports performance. Sport-specific skill, technical coaching and practice also determine how physical qualities are expressed in competition.

Integrated Performance in Practice

Rehabilitation and Performance Belong in the Same Conversation.

You do not always arrive ready to lift heavy, sprint or jump. That does not mean your performance goals need to disappear.

Where appropriate, Peter can incorporate relevant movement assessment, corrective interventions, manual work and progressive exercise within the same plan. Early training may emphasise tolerance, control and strength before advancing to greater power or speed.

The plan is based on your presentation and response; pain or a previous injury is not automatically explained by posture or one movement-screen result. Medical issues requiring diagnosis should be assessed by the relevant healthcare professional.

The Space to Train for More Than One Quality.

Peter’s private Integrated Performance studio supports strength, power, movement, conditioning and relevant corrective work within one facility.

Indoor training can be combined with the property’s outdoor space for appropriate agility, acceleration, deceleration and field-based work. A grass track provides additional scope for sled training.

Outdoor sessions depend on weather and ground conditions. Training remains private and individualised rather than a fixed group-class timetable.

Progress With Context

Track the Qualities That Matter to You.

Physical measures are selected to answer useful training questions, not to generate scores for their own sake.

STRENGTH

Relevant Loading

Progression in appropriate lifts and strength measures at an agreed standard of technique.

POWER

Jump or Throw

Selected measures of explosive output when they are relevant and can be tested consistently.

SPEED & CONTROL

Movement Performance

Relevant sprint, change-of-direction or control tasks with attention to their measurement limits.

CAPACITY

Repeatable Effort

Conditioning measures and the ability to tolerate appropriate training and sport demands.

Results are individual. Improvements in strength or power do not guarantee a particular sporting result. Technique, practice, competition demands, health and other factors also matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Performance Training in Queenstown

Is this only for elite athletes?

No. The approach can suit recreational athletes, returning competitors and experienced performers. The assessment establishes a starting point and an appropriate training direction.

Is Performance different from personal training?

Performance coaching places greater emphasis on the physical requirements of your sport or event, while using the same individualised Integrated Performance approach. Strength, rehabilitation and other relevant components can still be included.

Do I need an assessment first?

An assessment helps establish priorities and appropriate starting loads. You can also arrange a complimentary introductory conversation to discuss your goals before booking the paid assessment.

Can my sport coach and Peter work alongside each other?

Yes. Peter’s work is physical preparation; a specialist coach can continue to guide sport technique and tactics. Where appropriate, gym training can be coordinated with your practice and competition calendar.

What if I am returning after injury?

Describe the issue when enquiring. Relevant corrective work and progressive loading can be included within Peter’s scope, with medical or allied-health referral where indicated.

Will you test my strength, movement or power?

Where relevant, yes. Tests are selected around your goal and starting point. Not every client needs the same screening or performance-testing battery.

Does every client follow the same training phases?

No. Strength, power, mobility, conditioning and recovery priorities are sequenced and adjusted to the individual rather than assigned as a fixed calendar for everyone.

Can I train for a sport not listed on this page?

Yes. Enquire about the sport, current training and physical goal so Peter can discuss whether the service is suitable and how the programme could be structured.

Where does performance coaching take place?

Private coaching is based at Peter’s Lake Hayes studio in Queenstown. Outdoor work may be available when weather and ground conditions are suitable. Visits are by appointment.
