Integrated Performance. One Approach. Built Around You.
Assessment, corrective intervention, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and performance development brought together within one individualised process.
Rather than treating different aspects of physical function as unrelated services, Integrated Performance considers how they interact and applies the approaches relevant to your goals, physical status and response to training.
What Is Integrated Performance?
Integrated Performance is Peter Rouse’s assessment-led approach to understanding and developing human physical function, capacity and performance.
It brings together relevant elements of exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, corrective therapy, rehabilitation, movement assessment, motor control and physical preparation within one coordinated process.
The purpose is not to apply every technique to every person. It is to understand the individual, identify the most relevant priorities and select an appropriate combination of interventions and training methods.
Your programme may initially place greater emphasis on movement quality, rebuilding physical capacity or developing strength and performance. Those priorities can change as your capabilities and goals develop.
Assess the Individual
Establish your goals, history, current physical status and the demands that matter to you.
Select Appropriate Strategies
Integrate relevant corrective, rehabilitative and training methods according to your assessment and response.
Build Physical Capability
Progress movement, strength, conditioning and performance while reassessing the outcomes that matter.
The Body Does Not Operate as Separate Departments.
Movement, strength, coordination, joint function, training tolerance and recovery can influence one another.
A person may want to improve strength but also have a relevant movement limitation. Another may have completed an initial rehabilitation programme but still need to rebuild the physical capacity required for work, sport or everyday life.
A performance-focused programme may therefore include corrective exercise. A rehabilitation-focused programme may progressively include substantial strength and conditioning.
Integrated Performance does not assume that one discipline or technique provides every answer. The assessment and ongoing response determine what belongs in the plan.
How You Move
Mobility, stability, coordination, motor control and the strategies used to complete physical tasks.
What You Can Do
Strength, endurance, power, work capacity and tolerance for relevant physical demands.
How You Respond
Your response to intervention, training load, recovery and progressive physical development.
The guiding principle: understand the individual, establish priorities, apply appropriate methods, then reassess and progress.
Understand the Individual Before Choosing the Method.
The initial Integrated Performance Assessment helps establish your current physical status, relevant limitations, goals and priorities.
Assessment components are selected according to the individual. They may include:
Findings guide the starting programme and provide reference points for reassessment.
Explore the Assessment ProcessAddress Relevant Limitations. Develop Better Options.
Where assessment identifies a relevant limitation, the programme may include corrective or rehabilitative strategies alongside training.
Depending on the individual, these may involve hands-on manual techniques, mobility work, breathing strategies, sensorimotor interventions, movement retraining or targeted exercise.
The aim is to support meaningful improvements in function and physical capacity, not to make corrective work a permanent destination.
As appropriate, the work progresses towards more demanding movement, loading and the activities you want to perform.
Explore Corrective TherapyBuild the Capacity to Do More.
Corrective work and assessment inform the programme, but meaningful physical development requires appropriately structured training.
Depending on your goals and starting point, training may develop strength, muscle mass, movement efficiency, power, conditioning and sport-specific qualities.
Exercise selection, loading, volume and progression are adjusted according to your capabilities and response.
The objective is to develop physical qualities that transfer to the activities and demands that matter to you.
Explore Strength & ConditioningThe Principles That Guide Every Programme
Methods may change between individuals and across stages of development. The underlying principles remain consistent.
Individual First
Your goals, history, capabilities and response determine programme priorities.
Assessment-Led
Relevant findings help guide intervention, exercise selection and the starting training load.
Integrated Application
Therapy, rehabilitation and performance training are applied as relevant parts of one process.
Progressive Development
Physical demands increase according to capability, tolerance and the intended outcome.
Reassessment
The programme evolves according to meaningful changes in function, performance and response.
Long-Term Capability
Training supports continued physical participation, performance and resilience over time.
From Your Starting Point to Your Next Level
The process is structured, but the programme itself remains individualised.
Understand
Establish your goals, history, priorities and relevant physical demands.
Assess
Examine relevant physical qualities and establish a useful baseline.
Develop
Apply appropriate intervention, coaching and progressive training.
Reassess
Review your response, measure relevant changes and adjust priorities and progression.
Different Goals. One Integrated Approach.
Integrated Performance is not limited to one type of client or one physical objective.
Build Strength & Muscle
Develop strength, muscle mass and physical capacity through structured resistance training.
Return to Activity
Rebuild relevant movement and loading capacity following injury or a period of reduced activity.
Improve Sport Performance
Develop the physical qualities required for your sport or activity.
Improve Movement
Address relevant movement limitations while developing control and strength.
Maintain Physical Capability
Support continued strength, mobility, balance and physical independence over time.
Prepare for Physical Demands
Develop capacity for demanding work, outdoor recreation, competition or personal goals.
Experience Applied to the Individual in Front of Me.
I have spent more than 30 years working across exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, manual therapy, rehabilitation and performance preparation.
That experience has reinforced the importance of understanding the individual rather than asking everyone to follow the same method.
Integrated Performance brings those areas of experience together into a coherent, assessment-led approach.
Today, I apply it through private, one-to-one practice in Queenstown.

Integrated Performance in a Private Indoor–Outdoor Studio
The Lake Hayes studio provides a dedicated environment for assessment, corrective work and progressive physical training.
Indoor equipment supports strength, conditioning and individual exercise progression.
Outdoor areas allow suitable movement, sled work and field-based training when weather and ground conditions permit.
Sessions are private and structured around the individual, rather than the demands of a busy commercial gym.
