The therapy approach

Therapy Is Part of Integrated Performance—not a Separate Pathway.

People come in with different concerns: a stiff shoulder, recurring muscle tension, reduced range of motion, difficulty loading a movement or discomfort that changes how they train. The same symptom does not necessarily have the same cause or require the same intervention.

Peter combines his experience in manual therapy, movement assessment, exercise physiology and strength and conditioning to select techniques relevant to the individual. Hands-on work may be the main emphasis of a focused session or one component of a wider rehabilitation and training plan.

The objective is to help you move and function more comfortably, then develop the physical capacity needed for the activities that matter to you. No particular technique is applied automatically, and an assessment finding is not treated as a diagnosis on its own.

Reasons people enquire

What Would You Like Help With?

These are reasons to discuss an assessment—not diagnoses or promises that a particular treatment will work. The suitability of hands-on care and exercise is established individually.

01 / COMFORT

Muscle Tension & Stiffness

Explore appropriate strategies when tension or stiffness affects your comfort, range of motion or participation in activity.

02 / MOVEMENT

Restricted Mobility

Assess relevant joint movement, soft-tissue tolerance and the way you use the available range in everyday or training tasks.

03 / FUNCTION

Movement-Related Discomfort

Understand the activity, position or load associated with discomfort and determine a suitable next step within Peter’s scope.

04 / RETURN

Rebuilding After a Setback

Combine appropriate hands-on strategies with progressive movement and exercise when returning to physical activity.

05 / CONTROL

Coordination & Motor Control

Explore how an individual organises a relevant movement and whether targeted practice or selected sensorimotor techniques are useful.

06 / PERFORMANCE

Limitations Affecting Training

Address an identified physical barrier as part of a wider strength, conditioning or sport-performance programme.

How therapy may be delivered

A Range of Methods. Selected for Your Assessment and Response.

Techniques are tools, not separate programmes that every client must complete. The emphasis depends on your presentation, preferences, goals and what is appropriate to assess or address.

01 / HANDS-ON

Manual & Soft-Tissue Techniques

Selected hands-on approaches may be used for local comfort, movement tolerance or to prepare for a relevant task. Depending on the individual, this may include soft-tissue work, trigger-point-oriented techniques and other manual methods.

02 / NEUROREFLEX

Reflex-Oriented & Sensorimotor Work

Peter has longstanding experience with Primal Reflex Release Technique (PRRT) and related neuroreflex approaches. He may use selected inputs and movement checks as part of a broader intervention when appropriate.

Proposed explanations for these methods are not the same as independently established neurological diagnoses or guaranteed treatment mechanisms.
03 / RANGE

Mobility & Stretch-Based Work

Range-of-motion testing can guide suitable stretching, contract-relax approaches, active mobility and progressive movement through tolerable ranges. Improvement is checked against a useful functional task.

04 / PATTERN

Movement & Motor-Control Retraining

Practise the movement that matters to you, with appropriate changes in position, assistance, resistance or complexity. The aim is to make the next physical task more manageable and repeatable.

05 / POSTURE & BREATHING

Postural, Breathing & Trunk Strategies

When relevant, assessment may consider how breathing, trunk control, positioning or movement habits interact with the activity you want to improve. There is no single ideal posture that everyone must be forced into.

06 / CAPACITY

Corrective Exercise & Progressive Loading

Follow useful treatment changes with appropriate exercise, strength or conditioning work. Progression is adapted to your loading tolerance, goals and response rather than relying on repeated treatment alone.

What you will not receive: a preset sequence of every method on this page, a claim that a single muscle or posture explains all pain, or a promise of a permanent result from one session. Peter selects and reassesses interventions for the individual.
Understand before treating

Assessment Helps Determine What Is Appropriate.

Before deciding on a technique, Peter discusses your goal, physical history, symptoms and the specific activity or movement you want to improve. The examination is selected for the situation; it is not every possible test delivered to every person.

  • Your concern, goals, relevant health history and current activity
  • The movements or loads that change the issue
  • Relevant range of motion, movement quality and strength
  • Postural, breathing or sensorimotor observations where useful
  • Response to a selected intervention and relevant retesting
What to expect

A Thoughtful Session, Not a Fixed Treatment Routine.

The balance of discussion, testing, manual work and exercise changes depending on the reason for your appointment and what is appropriate that day.

01

Tell Peter What Matters

Discuss the concern, your physical history and the movement or activity you want to improve.

02

Establish a Baseline

Check relevant movement, range, loading tolerance or other appropriate findings.

03

Apply Selected Methods

Use suitable hands-on work, mobility, sensorimotor strategies or exercise with your agreement.

04

Recheck & Plan

Review the response and establish an appropriate next exercise, progression or referral.

Beyond symptom-focused work

Therapy and Physical Development Belong in One Conversation.

Your goal may be to pick up your child without discomfort, return to resistance training, get back on the mountain or simply move with more confidence. A focused intervention is useful only in relation to what you want to do next.

As appropriate, the emphasis can progress from movement tolerance and relevant corrective strategies toward strength, conditioning and the demands of everyday life or sport. Some clients require a focused appointment; others benefit from a longer coaching structure.

Peter does not automatically place everyone into an isolated “therapy phase” before allowing them to train. The mix of work is decided by your needs and the activity you are preparing for.

Your private appointment

Therapy at the Lake Hayes Studio.

Sessions take place by appointment at Peter’s private Integrated Performance studio in the Lake Hayes area of Queenstown. The environment supports appropriate hands-on work, physical assessment and movement or resistance exercise as needed.

Because Peter works directly with you, the session can move between the treatment area and the relevant training equipment rather than treating the two as unrelated services.

Scope and safety: Peter’s assessment and manual or exercise-based work are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment when those are required. New, severe, unexplained or worsening symptoms, significant neurological changes and other concerning signs may call for medical assessment before further training or treatment. For an emergency, call 111 in New Zealand.

Common questions

Integrated Corrective Therapy FAQ.

Practical information about therapy, assessment and how it fits into your wider physical development.

Is this a massage-only appointment?

Not necessarily. Depending on your needs, a session may combine discussion, assessment, manual or soft-tissue work, selected neuroreflex or sensorimotor techniques, mobility and relevant exercise. The approach is not a preset massage routine.

What is Primal Reflex Release Technique (PRRT)?

PRRT is a named reflex-oriented manual method that Peter has used in his practice for many years. It may be one selected tool within a broader approach. Claims about precisely how a technique affects neural circuits should not be mistaken for an independently established diagnosis or guaranteed clinical effect.

Will Peter use every therapy method listed?

No. Methods are selected according to your presentation, preferences, physical history, goals and response. Some appointments may emphasise exercise or movement rather than hands-on work.

Does a posture or movement finding explain my pain?

Not by itself. Posture, strength, movement and range-of-motion findings can inform a plan, but they do not necessarily identify a single cause of pain. Your symptoms and wider health history matter, and medical assessment may be appropriate.

Can therapy be combined with strength training?

Yes, when suitable. Peter’s Integrated Performance approach can combine relevant therapy, rehabilitation, corrective exercise and progressive physical training as parts of one process.

Will I need a comprehensive assessment first?

The comprehensive Integrated Performance Assessment is the standard starting point for structured coaching. A focused individual appointment may be appropriate for some specific needs. Contact Peter to discuss which is suitable. See current pricing for the available options.

Is the free consultation a therapy session?

No. It is a complimentary 30-minute introductory conversation to discuss your goals and questions. The physical assessment and any therapy or coaching are separate paid appointments.

Can you diagnose or treat a medical condition?

Peter provides assessment-led movement, manual and exercise-based services within his professional scope. These do not replace medical diagnosis, specialist investigation or treatment where indicated. Concerning symptoms may require referral or medical evaluation.

Where does therapy take place?

At Peter’s private studio in Lake Hayes, Queenstown. Visits are by appointment; please contact Peter before travelling to the property.

How much does therapy cost?

The appropriate appointment depends on your needs. Check the Pricing page for the current Initial Assessment and Entry Session options, or enquire about the most suitable starting point.
